A disruptive approach to the traditional scholarship model

The Last Mile Education Fund increases diversity in tech and engineering fields by addressing critical gaps in financial support for low-income and underrepresented students within four semesters of graduation. Co-founder Ruthe Farmer (previously Senior Policy Advisor for Tech Inclusion in the Obama Administration) shared her robust business strategy with me to create a film to launch the $3 Million fund. The second phase of the project was completing a cutdown version of the film to submit the fund for a national grant. Currently, they are named a top 10 finalist for the Equality Can’t Wait Challenge.

My Role

• Led discovery session with Co-founder to determine project goals.

• Synthesized strategy decks and devised concept for 2.5 minute launch film.

• Wrote script and visual cue list.

• Sourced free visual assets and selected and edited music.

• Recorded and directed voiceover with Ruthe.

• Edited and animated film and mixed final audio.

• Once completed, launched second phase of project to produce a cutdown version with script changes, voiceover pick-ups, graphic and image changes.
